Tournament Overview
The 2026 FIFA World Cupis the 23rd edition of the quadrennial international men's football championship contested by the senior national teams of FIFA member associations. It is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026, hosted across 16 cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
This is the first World Cup to feature 48 teams, expanded from 32 in previous editions. The tournament will be played across 16 stadiums with a total of 104 matches, making it the largest World Cup in history. The final will be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Format
The tournament features 12 groups of 4 teams. Each team plays 3 group matches. The top 2 from each group plus 8 best third-placed teams advance to a Round of 32, followed by single-elimination knockout rounds through to the final.
